Computers can translate all kinds of languages well. Do our children need to learn more languages in the future?
The advent of computers has seen a change in the learning sector. There has been a significant change in particular in the amount of languages that the computers can translate and interpret. In this case one may ask the question,” is it necessary and is there an eargent need for our children to learn any other kind of language other than the one they are familiar with?” We find that it is not needed for the children to stress themselves unnecessarily cramming long lines of sentences when the machine can interpret the languages for them, decode the information as needed and produce a needed output as needed. The computer programmers are now the ones who need to learn the languages and not our children anymore. Our children have the opportunity to use their time to perform the needed activities without trouble in needing to interpret foreign languages in order to understand a particular concept and achieve the needed results.
Learning more languages is tiresome. It has come to the notice of many teachers and even professionals in various sectors that interpreting different languages is very hard. It takes time and energy and very many resources in order to achieve the needed results. Our children are struggling to a understand and comprehend languages and as a result they lose their quality time that they could have used to perform other need things such as playing in order to improve their physical health. According to this there is more things they could have done and therefore it may seem irrelevant to learn other languages in the future.
However, there is also important that our children should learn other languages. This is due to the fact that the computer that we normally use may experience system failure and in such a case there could be need for the learner to have an understanding of the language that is involved. In this regard the foreign language may help the individual in cases that they may not understand other language or in cases of emergencies where no one understands the individual’s language. An example of such an instance is where the person involved who is a child, grows to become a doctor and is sent to offer medical assistance in a foreign country. Understanding the language of the people of this land will be of importance if this doctor is to perform his activities in the need means and ways and avoid failure.
In addition, understanding more languages for the child without the need of a computer may be of added advantage since it will increase their scope of understanding in diverse and broad fields and as a result there will be a significant change in the life of the individual in the future. Learning this languages and understanding them without the need of a computer may enable the child involved get the needed skills and that they may get a job as a translator in the future. Therefore, this languages end up being an added advantage in the Job market in the future.
In conclusion, despite the ability of computers to translate foreign languages well it requires that the individual learn and understand other foreign languages since they can be of help to this child in the future. However, it requires that the child involved be encouraged and to preserver since the learning process is a rigours process and requires that the child and individual be patient to avoid losing hope. Though computers are advantageous they can also be detrimental. The old and the new systems of information must therefore work together to achieve the required results. This is the road that all schools should follow. Using computers for translation is relevant but only as an added advantage rather than to completely depend on them alone.
